Overview
The Bosch MEVD17.2 family is one of the most mature and widely documented ECU platforms in the BMW ecosystem. Originally introduced for the four-cylinder turbocharged N20 engine in 2011, it was extended across the six-cylinder N55, the M-division S55, and selected V8 N63 and S63 applications. All variants share the TC1797 processor, but calibration structures, security access and tool compatibility differ between sub-variants.
With eight documented sub-variants — from the base MEVD17.2 through to the MEVD17.2.H — this family covers a broad span of production years and vehicle platforms. The long production run means that software-level differences can be significant even within the same sub-variant code, making it important to verify the exact ECU software version alongside the hardware part number before selecting a read method or applying a calibration file.
