Bosch

Bosch MG1 (MG1CS003 / MG1CS201)

Details

OBD reading available on pre-2019 models. Post-2019 models increasingly require bench or boot access via the DME connector due to updated security. Always verify the exact DME version before selecting a reading method.

Bosch

Bosch MD1 (MD1CS001 / MD1CP002)

Details

OBD reading is limited or unavailable on most MD1 variants. Bench reading via the DME connector is the primary method. Boot mode may be required for some newer encryption levels.

Siemens / Continental

Siemens / Continental MEVD17.2

Details

Full OBD reading and writing supported on all MEVD17.2 variants. This is one of the easiest BMW ECU platforms to work with remotely. No bench or boot access typically required.

Siemens

Siemens MSD80 / MSD81

Details

Full OBD reading and writing supported. The MSD80/81 platforms have excellent tool support across all major tuning tool brands. Boot mode is rarely needed but available as a recovery method.

Bosch

Bosch EDC17 (CP45 / CP49 / C06 / C41)

Details

OBD reading supported on all EDC17 variants with good tool compatibility. The platform is mature and well-understood. Some newer CP49 variants may benefit from bench reading for a cleaner file.

BMW / Various

BMW DDE (Digital Diesel Electronics)

Details

Reading methods depend on the underlying ECU platform (EDC17, MD1, etc.). Identify the specific Bosch or Continental part number on the DME unit to determine the correct approach.
