BMW B57 3.0L Turbo Diesel I6
The B57 is the modular successor to the N57, introduced in 2016. It powers the G20 330d, G30 530d, G05 X5 30d and newer models. Features a new aluminium block, improved injection system and lower emissions. Available in single-turbo and quad-turbo (B57D30S0) configurations.
ECU Ecosystem
Bosch MD1 / MD1CS001 on most variants. Reading methods vary — OBD access is limited on newer models, with bench or boot often required.
Fuel Considerations
Standard diesel. Premium diesel recommended for consistent results. The B57 injection system is highly precise and benefits from clean fuel.
Stage 1 Path
Stage 1 delivers approximately 310-330 hp and 650-680 Nm on the single-turbo variant. Smooth power delivery with excellent drivability retention.
Stage 2 Path
Stage 2 options are more constrained by the exhaust aftertreatment system on Euro 6d models. Focus is on optimising within the turbo and emissions system limits.
Reliability Considerations
Early production units had some EGR cooler issues. Otherwise very reliable. The aluminium block is lighter but requires careful attention to coolant system maintenance.
