Overview
Vitesco Technologies — formerly the powertrain division of Continental — supplies DME9-designated engine management units for selected modern BMW B48 applications. No B58 application is currently confirmed by a source for this unit, so a B58 should not be assumed to carry it. Not all B48 vehicles use a Vitesco ECU: BMW sources DME9 units from multiple suppliers depending on production allocation, so the ECU manufacturer must be confirmed on a per-vehicle basis by reading the unit label or querying the ECU via diagnostic tools.
Because the Vitesco DME9 is a relatively recent platform, tooling support, read and write procedures and calibration structures are still being documented. The processor architecture, security access methods and software structure may differ significantly from Bosch-manufactured DME9 units. Any assessment or file request must begin with confirmation that the vehicle is equipped with a Vitesco-manufactured ECU rather than a Bosch unit.
ECU Variants
| ECU Code | BMW DME/DDE | Processor | Engine Families | Example Models | Generation | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vitesco DME9 | DME9 | To be confirmed per application | B48 | G20 330i (selected later production) | 2022–present | Not all B48 vehicles use a Vitesco ECU — BMW sources DME9 units from multiple suppliers. The ECU manufacturer must be confirmed from the unit label or via diagnostic query before any further assessment. |

How to Identify This ECU
- 1Confirm the engine code and read the DME label; the engine name alone does not identify a DME9.
- 2Locate the DME unit and read the manufacturer label — look for Vitesco Technologies or Continental branding rather than Bosch.
- 3Query the ECU via OBD diagnostic tool or BMW ISTA to confirm the DME9 designation and manufacturer.
- 4Record the full hardware and software version numbers.
- 5Note the vehicle VIN, production date and exact model variant.
- 6If the unit is manufactured by Bosch rather than Vitesco, refer to the Bosch MG1 or MG1CS221 entry instead.
OBD / Bench / Boot Compatibility
| Variant | OBD | Bench | Boot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vitesco DME9 | Vehicle-specific — verify ECU manufacturer before assessment | Vehicle-specific — verify ECU manufacturer before assessment | Vehicle-specific — verify ECU manufacturer before assessment |
Security & Unlock Context
- The Vitesco DME9 is a current-generation ECU — access procedures, security architecture and tooling support are still being documented.
- Do not assume compatibility with Bosch MG1 or other Bosch-based procedures even if the BMW DME designation appears similar.
- Each vehicle application should be assessed individually after confirming the ECU manufacturer.
Information Required Before Requesting a File
- ECU hardware part number from the unit label
- Confirmation of Vitesco Technologies as ECU manufacturer
- ECU software version (via OBD query or ISTA)
- Vehicle model, year, exact variant and VIN
- Production date of the vehicle
- Engine code confirmation from the vehicle
