How to Prepare a BMW ECU File Request

Complete preparation guide for professional-quality file service submissions.

A well-prepared file request results in faster turnaround, better calibration quality, and fewer revision cycles. This guide covers everything a professional tuner needs to prepare before submitting a file through the JB Remap Portal.

The submission process has three phases: vehicle assessment, ECU reading, and portal submission. Each phase has specific requirements that, when followed correctly, ensure the calibration engineer has everything needed to deliver an optimal result.

What to Provide

Vehicle VIN and model year, engine code and variant, ECU/TCU part number and software version, complete original ECU read file, reading tool name and firmware version, reading method used (OBD/bench/boot), current hardware modification list, target calibration level (Stage 1/2/custom), fuel type and octane available, any relevant datalogs, current fault code scan results.

Before You Submit

Verify the ECU read is complete and uncorrupted, confirm the file is a genuine original (not previously modified), ensure all vehicle details are accurate, clear any adaptation values if recommended by the reading tool, and double-check that the hardware modification list is current.
